To address this, Arapahoe County must lead in adopting HUD-embraced "Housing First" policies, emphasizing attainable housing, temporary shelters, and essential services. I advocate for setting the standard for affordable housing at 30% of one's income, inclusive of utilities. Uninhabitable housing should fall below Arapahoe County's acceptable standard. This issue is paramount for District 5, as rising costs make suitable housing unattainable for many, impacting mental, environmental, and economic health. Eliminating housing insecurity is a collective positive for our community.

As your County Commissioner, I commit to expanding our housing stock with options accessible to individuals of ALL income levels. I will endorse programs boosting homeownership and collaborate with the County Assessor to provide property tax relief for veterans and seniors. Additionally, I'll support the Human Services Department, ensuring that assistance programs for food, medical needs, and financial aid are accessible, responsive, and efficient, offering a safety net during challenging times.
